Edit Test: The Infatuation

 Edit Test: The Infatuation

It’s been a dream of mine to write since I was a child. Enamored with magazines from a very young age, I would spend hours memorizing the layouts and diving deep into the words on each page, hoping that someday, my own words could be in there. I fully planned to major in journalism in college, but at the urging of well-meaning friends who couldn’t find any media jobs after graduation, I went a different route.

My love for the craft never waned, so when I saw the opportunity to apply for a staff writer position at one of my favorite food publications, I jumped at the chance to submit a piece. And wouldn’t you know it, they liked my piece enough that they called me back for an interview! And let me do an edit test! I was overjoyed—and positive I was going to get the gig.

Ultimately, they didn’t select me for the position, but I’m happy with the product that came out. It was the first time in my life that I felt like a “real” writer. Hopefully, this won’t be the last time.
